“When Allah is with you nobody can beat you, you have to believe this.” Khabib Nurmagomedov

Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov is a Dagestani UFC fighter critically acclaimed for his undisputed 28 fight win-streak without ever suffering a loss. Notable achievements, other than wrestling a bear at the very young age of 8 and swimming in ice-cold lakes, include being the current UFC lightweight champion and ranking 1st on the list of men’s pound-for-pound (this specific title comes with a bit of controversy as former pound-for-pound champion, Jon Jones, does not seem too eager to relinquish his title). He first started his journey towards dominion as a 2-time world champion in Sambo during his late teenage years, followed by his MMA debut in September 2008 and compiled four consecutive wins in under a month. He then went on to win his first UFC debut in 2012 against Kamal Shalorus and the rest is history. All of this success has earned Nurmagomedov the top spot of Forbes Russia’s Most Successful athletes under age 40. This article aims to break down the psychology, environment and training regimen of this Dagestani bred UFC fighter in hopes of answering the one burning question I’m sure is on many people’s mind; why is this man so unbeatable?

Fighter psychology

Khabib’s mental resilience when dealing with issues inside and outside the octagon seem to stem from religion, family and national pride.
